Overall
Name:Owen Mancing
Code Name:Shield
Gender:male
Age: 16 years
Birth Date:14th, December
Affiliation:Currently Civilian (eventually Hero; don't know when)
Occupation: Helps out in his father's Bowling alley. Goes to school
Age Looks: 15 years
Appearance:
Owen's hair is short and black. His bangs branch out in three large clumps of hair with two smaller ones separating them. One being in the middle going down to his eyes and being slightly curled, two smaller clumps are on both sides of it. The other two larger clumps of hair are more to the side of his head. His hair is cut around his ears and the back is brushed more out to the right side, sticking out. His eyes are emerald green, white skin, and has a lithe build to him mostly. He stands at 5ft 3in.
He wears a grey T-shirt, orange hat with a white circle on the left side of it, light blue shorts or pants; depends on how hot the day is, grey socks and black shoes. At times he can be seen wearing a dark blue jacket. Often this is his school appearance. Sometimes his shirt will be orange or he'll go without his hat. Just depends on what the day is like for him.
(The reason why I didn't put what his superhero outfit is. A; he's not a hero yet. B; I have no idea what it's going to look like. Once I figure that out, he'll most likely have become a hero at that point. Sorry)
Personality:
Owen is really quiet and hardly ever talks to anyone at school. He's more of the bystander type that will keep quiet and just watch everything else go by in the classroom. Although he does struggle to be social with people his own age and appears to be nervous around them.
When at the bowling alley, Owen seems like a different person. He's very cheerful and seems to be able to have a conversation with anyone there no matter what their ages are. He's polite at both places. It's easy to make him nervous though and usually he goes silent; depends on what's making him nervous.
Background Info
Family:
Charles Mancing, father; Unknown statues
Eliza Mancing, mother; dead
Baxter Turner, uncle, brother of Charles; Alive.
Mally Turner, Aunt, wife of Baxter; Alive.
Background:
Owen's parents had often talked about having a child. However, both of their jobs didn't really pay them enough for them to really have a good life. Simple terms, they were poor. While Eliza worked in a small bookstore, her husband Charles went from job to job. Having no stable job nor income. However, the talk of a child still lingered in their minds and often their dinner conversations. While Charles did want a child, he feared it would be too soon to have one and with their current income; from both of them, he also feared they wouldn't be able to raise one let alone feed them properly.
Somehow though, Owen was eventually born. It was sort of a happy moment, until Eliza died a few minutes after name her son. Although heartbroken and stricken with grief, Charles decided to raise Owen alone. For the first few months, Charles struggled. He had no idea on how to be a parent and one could say the man wasn't the best father material.
It was then that Baxter, Charles younger brother came into the picture. Recently he had married Mally Turner and taken on his wife's last name. Hearing about his older brother's predicament and lose, Baxter wanted to help out Charles and be in the life of his nephew. Charles agreed, allowing Baxter to take Owen into his house and care for him when Charles was away.
Owen grew up rather normal. The fact that growing up without a mother didn't really strike him until he started school; since he really considered his Aunt to be his mother. Although he never got beat up nor into fights, Owen felt out of place due to how some of the other kids teased him about not having a real mother.
When he was seven, Owen's father just seemed to disappear from life. Although, Baxter did notice that when Owen turned five, that Charles was making shorter and fewer visits. This was due to the fact that Charles had actually joined a gang and was getting money that way. His father still sent money to Baxter in order to help his brother raise his son. But there was never a return address.
It wasn't until Owen was thirteen that his powers came to his attention. It had been during a game of kickball at school, and the ball had been sent in his direction. Knowing how much it would sting; and the fact that the person kicked it that hard to being with. Owen put his arms in front of his face in a x position. Only for the ball to hit something not there a few inches away from Owen's arms and bounce off. While this event had evern confused, it had Owen dumbfounded.
Arriving home to the bowling alley, Owen had gone to his room trying to figure out what happened. While nothing was coming to mind, he tossed a tennis ball at the wall frustrated and when it came back at him. Owen did the same thing as he did before, only this time he stopped it in mid air. Though it didn't completely click even after that, Owen eventually came to the conclusion that he had powers.
Knowing how stupid it would be to reveal them but knowing how bad it would be to ignore them, Owen started to practice using them in his room and in old buildings that were abandoned. He had to practice on somewhere where he wouldn't be seen. Well, hopefully he wouldn't be seen. While balancing school life and helping out at the bowling alley, Owen has so far managed to keep his abilities secret from his Aunt and Uncle, as well as people at school.
Abilities
Powers/abilities:
He can create a force field around himself and around a small group of people; that small group being two to three people excluding himself.
For now he can only levitate small things ranging from tennis ball to garbage can in size. (I don't think this ability will improve much.)
So far, he can't stop anything, just hope to reflect it with the force field. He can only reflect things from small bullets like in handguns and some rifles, to things the size of a red kickball.
The larger the item determines how fast it wears him out. It takes a lot of effort for him right now to make a garbage can levitate, but that's due to it having things in it; can't move the can without the garbage nope. Smaller things are easy and don't require much strength, he can most likely levitate a few tennis balls without getting tired too fast.
If he moves things in groups though, it's another matter. It drains him of strength as well. Like moving seven tennis balls at the same time would require more focus on his end and would result in him getting tired faster.
Strengths:
Normally has good focus.
Can keep a secret if it's not a bad one.
Is honest; unless his powers are part of it then he's sort of not.
Is good natured.
Thinks things through before doing them.
Fast thinker.
Weaknesses:
Owen doesn't know how to fight at all; not a teenager into fighting.
Using his powers require concentration and focus, breaking concentration or focus results him not being able to use them.
He's still learning how to use his abilities and can't use them all that great.
If he's scared or mad enough his powers kind of act on their own.
Can be made nervous easily; depends on what's making him nervous.
Isn't sure if he should tell his Aunt and Uncle about his powers.
Isn't sure on what to do with his powers.
Since he's still getting used to his powers, they can still backfire on him.
Other Info
Anything else you'd like to add:
He's not yet a hero/vigilante/crimefighter yet. Something needs to happen to help him decided that he wants to do that. Something that affects him mainly.
Also sorry about their not being a superhero outfit, I have no idea on what to make it look like. Any tips or ideas are welcome.
I also play Tonio AKA Trickster
Do you Agree should you become Inactive you will have your Character Removed from the Roleplay?:yes
Sample RP:
Owen sighed as he held his hands out in front of him. This was crazy, but then again what wasn't? The fact that he had powers was a crazy idea. Three years ago he learned about it and he still couldn't believe it. Closing his eyes, he focused on the tennis ball in the chair. His bedroom had light orange paint on the walls, it was a small room. The bed was on the right side of the room and was closest to him and the door was behind him, with a desk being on the left side near the back wall. The ball trembled for a moment or two before it slowly rose in the air. Owen opened his eyes and smiled.
"Well, that's one thing managed." Owen muttered to himself.
He started to move the ball over to himself when he heard the sound of footsteps on the stairs. The sound of the doorknob being grasped and slowly being turned startled Owen. Causing the tennis ball to launch itself at him. Smacking right in the left eye and causing him to fall backwards with a small yell. The door opened to reveal his Uncle, who had a surprised and concern look on his face.
"Owen, are you alright?" Uncle Baxter asked, Owen removed the tennis ball from his face.
"Yeah...fine..." Owen answered as he sat up, thankfully it didn't hit hard enough to give him a black eye.
"Well dinner's ready, what were you doing anyway?" Owen stood up and tossed the ball onto the bed.
"Nothing....I was doing nothing." Uncle Baxter cocked his head.
"Alright, not sure if nothing involves nearly getting a black eye and laying on your bedroom floor. Anyway, come along. If we don't get ourselves downstairs, Mally will start ranting." Uncle Baxter gestured for Owen to follow and Owen did just that.
